STOCKBRIDGE VILLAGE PRIMARY SCHOOL

Special Valuable People ...Successful, Visionary and Proud

Visions and Values

Vision and Values at SVP:

At SVP we believe that every member of our community is a 'special, valuable person' and we strive in all that we do to ensure we are all 'successful, visionary and proud.' Our vision is for a school where a love for learning and an appreciation of the world will last our children a lifetime.

At SVP we aim to achieve this by creating an enriched, board and balanced curriculum, underpinned by British values; encouraging each child to develop their curiosity and imagination, give them the skills to ask questions, solve problems and know how and where to find answers.

Our goal is to ensure that the different needs of all of our children are met and to enable every child to explore and expand their talents accordingly.

We believe academic achievement and personal development are equally important. Our broad and rich curriculum offers our pupils opportunities to experience life beyond our community. Our stimulating and exciting learning environment promotes high expectations and celebrates the world around us. We aim to build confidence, a sense of responsibility and identity that helps our pupils make positive contributions to the world around them in a confident way.

Our commitment is to maintain a high quality of provision that serves both the children and the community for many years to come.

We are very proud of our provision and work hard to ensure it continually communicates our high expectations and celebrates our achievements and who we are. We have strong links with the parish of St Jude's and St Albert's; we work with our local housing trust, Children's Centre;  our food bank, our local supermarket, local primary schools and a wide range of professionals to secure positive contributions to the community, a sense of purpose and a shared sense of pride in all that is Stockbridge.

Promoting British Values

At our school our curriculum actively promotes the fundamental British Values of Democracy, The Rule of Law, Individual Liberty and Mutual Respect and Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Democracy:

At the start of each academic year children work together to agree rules and expectations within their class

Regular check in and circle times are held where pupil voice is paramount and pupils are consulted through our School Council, Learning Warriors and our Community Committee. We help children understand how they can shape and influence decision through a democratic process. We work with many public services to promote respect and our children have the opportunity to take become Emergency Cadets and make a positive contribution to society.

The Rule of Law

The importance of laws, whether they be those that govern the class, the school, or the country, are

consistently reinforced at our school.  Pupils are taught from an early age the rules of the school.  Pupils are taught the value and reasons behind rules and laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken. Visits from authorities such as the Police and Fire Service help reinforce this message. We have close links with the community police officers who visit classrooms regularly. Our curriculum encourages pupils to be Champions for Change; visits to local government and city councils helps children understand the rule of law. We have just started on the journey to become a UNICEF School for Change and our children are learning about their international rights. For more information click the link below.

Individual Liberty:

At SVP pupils are actively encouraged to develop their self confidence and self regard; we encourage children to make the right choices independently and take responsibility for their own actions. We encourage respect for all through our strong anti bullying culture.  Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our eSafety and PSHE lessons. Children enjoy focus weeks in the curriculum that teach them about the different types of bullying and how they can keep themselves safe. We have recently joined UNICEF and will be working more on the rights of the child.

Mutual Respect & Tolerance

Mutual respect is at the heart of our values. Children learn that their behaviours have an effect on their own rights and those of others. All members of the school community are encouraged to treat each other with respect. We actively promote diversity through our celebrations of different faiths and cultures. Religious Education lessons and PSHE lessons reinforce messages of tolerance and respect for others. . The children visit places of worship that are important to different faiths and local clergy deliver monthly assemblies at our school .
